The Sculpture Garden – Thirty and Fabulous

Last Thursday marked thirty years since the Sculpture Garden opened, so I thought it would be fitting to dig up a photo from thirty years ago and compare. I am amazed by how much the trees have grown, almost completely blocking out downtown and shading visitors from the Texas sun.

Love those then and now photos. Nice sleuthing.

I was working nearby in the Cotton Exchange building then – and loved to wander the garden on my lunch hour. My favorite sculpture was “Rhythm in Space” by Max Bill, if memory serves – it was just to the left of the Ross Street entrance. I wonder where that is now?

It looks shady now, but for so long it was just too hot to sit out there. Also, good seating has been added.

It looks great now, but for so long it was too hot to sit out there.

A quiet place for peace and reflection is always a good thing. Add the wonderful sculptures and you have a little bit of Heaven.
