Thanksgiving is the perfect kick-off to the Holiday Season. It gives us time to visit with our loved ones, which in turn, reminds us that we need to start thinking about what gifts we plan to get them. Here we are in the beginning of December, and the joy of finding the perfect gift has begun. Wouldn’t it be fun to give your special someone a gift from the Museum?
Let us pretend that money is no object, and we can purchase any artwork in the Museum’s collection. Now, the artwork you plan to buy should be intended as a gift. I would give this Moche stirrup-spout vessel to my husband, Joe. Last year, we had the privilege of visiting Peru, and we became enamored with Andean cultures.

I would give the Necklace with pendant of Ganesha. This beautiful piece of jewelry would be a great conversation starter. Plus, Ganesha is the remover of obstacles, so anyone who wears the necklace might benefit from good luck!

I would give Claude Monet’s Pont Neuf to my sister to remind her of our trip to Paris, which was the highlight of our year!

I would give my mom the Celestial Centerpiece because when my parents visited the museum we both decided that it was stunning! Plus, it would be a perfect decoration for the winter season because it reminds me of a snowflake.

Hmmmm… I would give my brother-in-law the Gothic Revival Bedstead in the American collection. He’s not much of an art lover, yet he endured an extensive tour of the DMA with me once, and he was blown away by this bed. I would gift The Peaceable Kingdom to my friend Casey, who had a baby yesterday. Congratulations, Casey!! Baby William has an animal-themed nursery, so I think these animal friends would fit right in.

I would give Sheaves of Wheat by Vincent van Gogh to my Mom. Because when I was 15-years-old she insisted we go to the van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, and that is where I first fell madly inlove with art. Thanks Mom!
